At Grindleton C.E. Primary School we aim to inspire our pupils to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to become lifelong learners and linguists. We strive to ensure that all our pupils receive a well- rounded learning experience when reading, writing, speaking and listening, which will equip them with the fundamental tools to achieve. It is our intention to immerse pupils in quality texts to in still a love for reading.
We are passionate about children learning to read at Grindleton Church of England Primary school. Over the possible eight years that your child is in our care we aim for them to develop a love of reading and books so that they move from learning to read to reading to learn – and reading purely for enjoyment too!
We use a variety of reading books which are banded, they include books from Oxford Reading Tree and Collins Big Cat schemes and are linked to the progression of phonics.
Children are provided with a school book bag they can take home and read their reading book at home with parents or other family members. The more they can do at home the greater interest and knowledge they will gain.
On 26th September 2022 we held a Reading workshop for parents. Here is some information from the session with upper KS2.
Earlier in your child's time at school they will be listened to on a daily basis and encouraged to change their own books on a regular basis.
As they progress through school they will encounter more challenging and lengthier books they can really get their teeth into. A useful video to watch on how to read with your child at home can be viewed by clicking the link below.
