At Grindleton C.E. Primary school all children from Year 3 to Year 6 have up to one hour of French per week. The children are taught French in a mixed year group class and lessons are delivered by the class teacher.
Lesson Content:
- learning French vocabulary
- asking and answering questions
- using bilingual dictionaries
- teaching of basic French grammar and spelling patterns
- playing games and learning songs
- using language that has been taught in pole play situations
- researching and learning about life in France
- beginning to write phrases and sentences
French will also be included in whole school occasions e.g. celebration assemblies, French Day.
French will be used in displays that relate to the children’s learning.
Languages other than French may be used within individual classes and topics, but French will be the main, assessed language.
