Grow and Shine in God’s Glory

Intent

Intent

Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think creatively and to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.

At Grindleton Primary School, we encourage children to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing, and art.

Our pupils follow a key design process that includes a research, design, make and evaluation phase. All pupils are supported in the evaluation of their work and are encouraged to reflect on each phase of the design process to make adaptations where needed. We share and use key vocabulary in all lessons to further support the learning of all children.

At Grindleton Primary School, we aim to:

  • To develop our children’s creativity, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
  • To introduce our pupils to a broad range of DT disciplines, techniques, and materials
  • To develop our children’s skills to critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
  • For our children to develop an understanding of and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
  • To provide skills and vocabulary based on design and technology curriculum, which is progressive and sequenced.
  • To provide a wealth of opportunities for our children to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts
